Africa Mourns

The African Council of Optometry joins the global optometry community in the sorrow and the mourning following the recent death of Dr. Uduak Udom which occurred on the 14th January 2019. Dr Udom was once the president of the African Council of Optometry and one of Africa’s key players in local and global optometry.

Dr. Udom was a remarkable woman who gave endlessly to the delivery and advancement of optometry in her home country, Nigeria; in Africa and around the world. With an immeasurable sense of duty and reliability, Dr Udom made a significant contribution to the current state of optometry in the world.

Dr Udom will be remembered for her exceptional leadership skills which took her to the positions of President of the Nigerian Optometric Association, President of the African Council of Optometry, and President of the World Council of optometry.

Here at AFCO, we offer our deepest condolences to her family. Likewise, we wish strength and courage to her family, friends and colleagues around the world.
